BIOGRAPHY

Daniel Curtis Lee, best known as “Cookie” on Nickelodeon’s Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide and as rapper “Dan-D,” lived in Clinton, MS for the first nine years with his father and mother, older sister Yolande and older brother Nathaniel, Jr. Daniel and his family now reside in Long Beach, CA. Daniel began his singing career at four years old in Clinton, where he and his brother would frequent local churches singing as a gospel duo. They performed old gospel tunes from artists such as Sam Cooke, The Soul Stirrers, Sensational Nightingales and Willie Banks and The Messengers. The family moved to Long Beach, CA in 2001. While living in CA Daniel and his brother, at the ages of 12 and 13 eventually completed their debut gospel album with entitled Warming. They performed these blues-influenced songs under the name “BrotherLee.” Daniel performed all lead vocals, while Nathaniel, Jr. played all the instruments and sang background. Additional background vocals came from Daniel’s father and cousin, Aaron Young.

Daniel started to lean more towards rap music because he had always liked rap and could recite every rap song that came on radio. More importantly, Daniel felt his young audience would listen to his message better in rap music. Therefore, Daniel began experimenting with rap music that had good, solid beats with a combination of good clean rap verses and smooth hooks. Once again, he joined with his brother in order to complete his first rap album.

Daniel’s music has a mature vibe that really speaks to his peers in a positive way. Daniel says, “Being a teen, I know the things I like doing and those are the things I want to rap about. Things that are positive, things that will make you think outside of the box and still have fun, music to dance to, to hang around and do nothing to and music that you can learn to.” For this reason, Daniel writes many of his lyrics and makes many of his beats. More recently, Daniel has been in the studio working hard to complete another CD, which is receiving many accolades. You can hear some of his music on www.myspace.com/danielcurtislee.

Daniel, now 16 years old, is one of the stars on Nickelodeon’s hit sit-com Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, which averages 4-8 million viewers weekly according to Nielsen Ratings. He plays the role of “Cookie” Simon Nelson Cook; a rich kid who thinks he is a cool ladies man, but is actually a crazy, kooky computer whiz whose glasses are connected to a hard-drive or as the kids at school call him, a cyborg. The show is in its third season. In one episode, he auditioned to be a cheerleader to get close to the ladies. In this show, Daniel has scenes where he gets the chance to exploit his singing and rap talents. In other scenes, he performs as Sinatra and P. Cookie, a parody of P. Diddy. Most recently Daniel portrayed Danny Zuko in the stage play Grease where again he had to show off his talents in voice and dance and his versatility in the field of entertainment. Daniel has also appeared on such TV shows and feature films with guest starring roles as The Shield and Friday after Next. He has made appearances as himself on: Let’s Just Play, Verb, Know Your Nominees ‚Äì Pre Teen Choice Awards, U-Pick Live, On Air Dare, Access Hollywood and others. You can catch Daniel at many red carpet events in Los Angeles. Magazine and Newspaper sightings include TV Guide, Girl’s Life, Mary-Kate and Ashley, Scholastic, Star Scoop, Clinton News, Press Telegram, Bahiyah Magazine Black Hollywood, Jet, Ebony.

Daniel’s audience as actor/ rapper is growing exponentially. His public performances as a young child have prepared him for entertaining his audiences. Now as a sophomore, he has been cast in the lead role as Danny Zuco in the stage play Grease, where he displays his singing, dancing and acting talents. Daniel loves the music, he loves to entertain but most of all loves his audience.

When he is not working, Daniel enjoys just being a regular kid. As a freshman, he was captain of the defense for his high school football team, starting at middle linebacker. He also enjoys baseball, skateboarding, swimming, biking and basketball, in which he has competed in celebrity basketball games.
