Music Monday

Today’s Music Monday selection is a song from The Brown Boys (profile) entitled “Here Come The Brown Boys,” which comes from their debut album of the same name. The Brown Boys rhyme along to a head-bobbing R&B track, announcing their arrival to the music scene. We love that the song has creative spunk but is still positive. Like the chorus of the song says, these boys are really “goin’ up,” and we can’t wait to see what else they have in store.
“Here Come The Brown Boys,” which was just released in December 2009 is a very diverse album featuring music that is inspirational to both youth and adults. Hear snippets of the boys’ entire CD available now on their MySpace at www.TheBrownBoys.net. CDs are available for purchase via the boys’ website, www.TheBrownBoys.ws and will soon be available on iTunes and Amazon. However, purchases from their site receive a free autographed poster, as well!

This Music Monday pick is a product of 16 year old Keke Palmer’s (profile) studio sessions for her new album with Interscope Records which is due for release in 2010. The track is called ‘Hard To Breathe‘ and showcases a more mature sound for Keke. It’s definitely a song for the teenagers and you can tell Keke’s voice has matured as well as her thinking and songwriting.
It’s very catchy and current and with lyrics like ‘How am I supposed to breathe / when all my heart does is bleed / you’re too stupid to see / what you’re doing to me / you’re making it hard to breathe‘ we can imagine it being a kind of broken hearts anthem for teens and young adults alike!
Take a listen, we’re sure you’ll enjoy it!

Our Music Monday selection for this week is a hot track from the rising actor and R&B singer Mishon (profile) called “Rock My Chain“. The song is his latest single from upcoming album, “The Yearbook,” slated for an early 2010 release. With such lyrics as, “Until you’re old enough to rock my name, I’mma let you rock my chain,” Mishon sends positive messages through his music; showing youngsters that they can show affection and still keep it PG and appropriate at the same time. Mishon’s previous single “Just a Kiss” was very well received and the video for the song even peaked at the number two spot on BET’s 106 and Park countdown! Take a listen to his latest single and let us know what you think. Is it as good as “Just a Kiss“… or better?
Mishon can currently be seen Monday nights at 8/7c on ABC Family in the drama series “Lincoln Heights“.

Our Music Monday selection this week is a tune called “My Song” by the 12 year old YBStar Jordan Adkison aka JDari (profile). In this song, with it’s soulful yet youthful sound, Jordan sings about staying true to herself and her gift. With lyrics like “How come I gotta be what you want me to be? This is my life, and I’m on my side,” this song is sure to inspire youngsters to be themselves, and to follow their hearts, despite what others may think. In no rush to grow up faster than she needs to, JDari’s lyrics are very age appropriate. Take a listen to this song that I’m sure will be pleasing to your ears! Hear more of Jordan’s music at www.myspace.com/jdariofficial.
*SideNote:* I am personally in love with this song and very proud of Jordan; the lyrics are perfect!
