For the first time in the eighteen year history of the ESSENCE Music Festival, a fourth day was added to include a new youth concert. The four day event was held this past weekend (July 5 – 8) in New Orleans. Kicking off the event were young shiners Katlyn Nichol (pictured), Coco Jones, OMG Girlz, Diggy, Roshon Fegan and others who performed Thursday, July 5, 2012, on the first ever New and Next Stage.
After the show, Katlyn showed her gratitude for being included in this first time ever concert tweeting, “Just finished performing! Thank you New Orleans & @EssenceMusic for having me for this 1st ever #NewAndNext show!! I had a so much fun.”
Coco Jones, whose performance included a cover of the dance song “1, 2 Step” by Ciara and Missy Elliott, was also grateful and excited to be a part of the event. She had this to say the following day: “One of my best concerts last night @essencemusic @essencemag it was crazy fun!! Can not wait for next yr! To do it again”
